{diy tutorial} Seed Paper Thanksgiving Holiday Decor

{diy tutorial} Thanksgiving Holiday Decor

Here’s a great activity for you to try at your next Thanksgiving dinner. Make festive place cards with Fall shapes that can be used both for decoration, and a fun activity where guests share what they’re thankful for. At our family Thanksgiving dinners we would always have to say out loud what we are most thankful for, this is just a little creative spin-off from that to get guests engaged. Hope you enjoy!

Supplies You’ll Need:

  • Free Printable Thanksgiving Place Card Shapes
  • Colored seed paper (or if you do not wish to plant the place cards, regular card stock will also work).
  • Scissors
  • A hole punch
  • pen(s)
  • twine

How to Assemble Place Cards:

  • Print one copy of the Free Printable Place Card Shapes on thick card stock.
  • Cut out the three shapes from your Free Printable Thanksgiving Place Card Shapes template. Trace these shapes as many times onto your different colored seed paper or card sock.
  • Cut out your colored shapes and add a hole punch to the stem of each of these shapes.
  • Attach a piece of twine, long enough to allow you to attach them to desired objects as shown in the pictures below (about 6 inches).

Here are a few examples of how you can use your Thanksgiving Place Cards. If you don’t have apples, try other seasonal elements like pears, pumpkins or pinecones. Or you can attach them to the stem of the wine glasses – that way they’ll do double duty as a place card and wine glass label to prevent guests from losing their original glass (and save you from doing extra dishes).

Download the free printable shapes and make your very own Thanksgiving place cards that can be planted to grow flowers.

Supply pens to everyone at dinner and get guests to write down what they are thankful for on the back of their place cards. A simple centrepiece that you can assemble would be a gathering of branches from outside. Tie the bottom together tight and place in a glass vase/jar. Use that centrepiece, and get guests to attach their place cards to the branches of the centrepiece. At the end of dinner, everyone can read out what they are thankful for and then take their place card home to plant. The seed paper place card will grow flowers, and as they grow, they’ll be a beautiful reminder of what they are thankful for.

We wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving and hope you get a chance to try this DIY. Your guests will enjoy the activity and the place cards will make for seasonal decorations. And if you’re looking for other complimentary decorations for your Thanksgiving table, check out the new Autumn Leaf Eco Confetti (pictured in the very first image of this post). It’s a great festive decoration that’s easy to clean up and leaves no waste – just flowers when it is planted.
