{crafts} Seed Paper Lanterns For Party Accents

Summer is the perfect time of year to host outdoor events like birthdays, showers, family reunions, or weddings, and making those moments memorable for the people you’re celebrating with is an important part of the planning. The tricky part, however, is planning them in a way that doesn’t come at the expense of the planet by creating a ton of unnecessary waste.

These seed paper lanterns are simple, eco-friendly party decorations that will add a pop of color and dress up your space for a party. Plus, when you’re done with them, you can plant them in your garden and watch the seed paper grow wildflowers!

Take a look at this tutorial to learn how to make these pretty seed paper lanterns:

What You Need:

Step 1: Cut out rectangles of seed paper measuring 21 cm x 12 cm in a variety of colors, keeping in mind these rectangles will be the base of your lanterns. We used pastel pink, blue, lavender, aqua, and white.

Step 2: Fold the paper in half lengthwise.

TIP: Since seed paper is a heavier paper, use a bone fold to crease the center before folding for a smoother fold.

Step 3: Cut 9 slats along the folded side of the paper, but don’t cut all the way through the paper! Leave about 1.5 cm of the paper untouched along the not-folded side.

Step 4: Open up the paper, and glue together with the slats folding out from each other.

Step 5: To create a handle on the top of the lantern, cut a strip of seed paper from the same color as the lantern measuring 2 cm x 18 cm. Glue both ends of the strip of paper to the inside of the lantern.

Step 6: Thread the lanterns onto a piece of string or rope and hang them along window ledges or fences.

TIP: To add an extra touch of summer magic, thread fairy lights around the string to make the lanterns light up.
